How about some romantic tunes to go along with the dinner you're planning for your sweetheart? Nothing puts people in the mood for a little romance like a song that speaks to the heart. Here is a list of some romantic songs that you may find will help create the atmosphere you want on Valentine's Day.
"Always On My Mind" - Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson
These two recordings both are great to listen to with the lights low -- try Elvis' for a vintage version and for those country lovers, Willie's remake is beautiful.
"And I Love Her" - The Beatles
A list like this wouldn't be complete without at least one Beatle's song.
This is the one we picked.
"Because You Loved Me" - Celine Dion
A classic Celine Dion song -- it displays her talent for wailing like no other. If you close you eyes, you may even be able to see her beat her chest at the dramatic parts.
"Can You Feel The Love Tonight" - Elton John
The way we see it, there are basically two types of people: those who don't
have kids, and those who have kids and are forced to watch every single
Disney movie that comes out. This little gem is from The Lion King, and as
long as you've got your toddler a sleep, it should make somebody roar.
"Can't Get Enough or Your Love Baby" - Barry White
The man just oozes sensuality. Play this song and see why. How do you think
the Biscuit from Ally McBeal landed the hottest chick on the entire show?
Of course, Ling is pretty hot, too, but we think we made our point.
"Could I Have This Dance?" - Anne Murray
If you haven't heard this one (specifically, the younger readers), check this slow song out -- it's just perfect to, uh...dance to.
"Crazy" - Patsy Cline
It's a classic. A perfect selection to listen to while you turn the lights down low, sip a martini and snuggle up to your love.
"Every Breath You Take" - Police
Don't let the lyrics wig you out -- unless your friendly neighborhood stalker is playing it in the street outside your house.
"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" - Bryan Adams
Bryan's raspy voice may or may not "do it for you," but don't let this song go unheard on Valentine's Day.
"Falling is Like This" - Ani Difranco
"Love is like falling -- and falling is like this." Profound lyrics make this song a perfect choice for budding relationships.
"Fever" - Peggy Lee
This seductive song tells of love through the ages -- and of how one's body is affected by that love.
"Have I Told You Lately that I Love You?" - Van Morrison, Rod Stewart
Have you ever seen the kind of women that Rod Stewart dates and marries?
This is how that ugly son of a gun pulls it off.
"Head Over Feet" - Alanis Morissette
We debated about putting this Alanis song on here or "You Oughta Know." We
thought this one was a little more romantic, though both do talk about
attractions and the aftermath of going to a movie together.
"He's Funny That Way" - Billie Holiday
Obvious. Just trust us on this one.
"How Do I Live" - Tricia Yearwood, Leann Rimes
"How do I live without you," the perfect lyrics for the perfect theme song of co-dependency. But it's a sweet tune, so it made the list.
"I Got You Babe" - Sonny and Cher
It's hokey, but we don't care. This song isn't exactly going to start the
whoopee process, but it could lead to a nice little hug, followed by a
smile and maybe a smooch. Then you've got to take it from there.
"I Had the Time of My life" - Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes
This duet is from the ultimate chick flick, "Dirty Dancing." It's not so much a cuddle-up and kiss me song. It's more a "Let's listen to music while we cook dinner" kind of song.
"I Just Called To Say I Love You" - Stevie Wonder
Have you seen the video to this song? He's singing the whole dang thing
into a telephone. How did he dial the number?
"I Swear" - John Michael Montgomery
We swore we needed more country diddies on this here list.
"I Will Always Love You" - Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston
Now in two great flavors.
"I'm On Fire" - Bruce Springsteen
And you will be too, if you play this one for your partner.
"In your Eyes" - Peter Gabriel
This perhaps is one of the most treasured "Our Song" songs. It's beautiful, seductive and has a great beat for a close dance!
"Lady in Red" - Chris de Burgh
This is a great song, but we swear we just watched the Pop-Up Video for it
on VH1, and his wife (for whom he wrote the song) hated it. She even left
him. Jerk. But we're guessing that most women will dig this song. And may
we suggest a little trip to Victoria's Secret before you fire up this tune
to get the right piece of red apparel.
"Let's Stay Together" - Al Greene
The good reverend knows how to sing a love song.
"Love Will Keep Us Alive" - The Eagles
It was either this song or "Love Will Keep Us Together" by the Captain and
Tenille.
"Melt with You" - Modern English
Crawl under the covers and act like a cheeseburger.
"Moonlight Sonata" - Beethoven
Play this beautiful song to impress someone new. It'll score you a few points in the "cultured" department.
"My Funny Valentine" - Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker
Old Blue Eyes knew how to get the attention of the opposite sex. Maybe some
it will rub off.
"My Heart Will Go On" - Celine Dion
And your sex life will go on if you play this song for your woman.
"My Valentine" - Martina McBride
We're not going to lie. We've never heard this song. But somebody in our
office has, so it's on the list. She said it's good, though.
"One" - U2
Bono has a great voice, and this song is so dang powerful you're going to
end up wanting to mate with somebody. So, please, for the love of all
things sacred, please don't listen to this song alone on Valentine's Day.
"The One" - Elton John
Boy, Elton sure keeps showing up on this baby, doesn't he? Grab your honey and dance to this one in some candlelight.
"Open Arms" - Journey
It's cheesy. But admit it -- you love nachos more than anything else on the
menu at a hockey game. Besides, how many people do you think messed up the
upholstery of their parents' new Buick because of this song? You know it had
to have been a ton. That alone warrants us putting this tune into our
lovers hall of fame.
"Power of Two" - Indigo Girls
A slow song with mingling melodies, it speaks of traveling through life with a partner who always will be there -- "Adding up the total of a love that's true / Multiply life by the power of two."
"To Deserve You" - Bette Midler
A song filled with desire and yearning for love. If you play this one for your lover, you may deserve to do a little more than just dance.
"Too Darn Hot" - Ella Fitzgerald
Yeah, but it won't be too darn hot to do "you know what" if you play this
song for your honey.
"Take My Breath Away" - Berlin
Top Gun. Cool music. Some people that are fun to look at. Very 80s.
"Truly Madly Deeply" - Savage Garden
You know, this song is actually popular right now. We heard Casey Kasem
talking about it this weekend. Will it be on our list next year? Doubt it.
But we wanted to look like we were still hip, so we threw this song on the
list.
"Unchained Melody" - The Righteous Brothers
Who can forget this selection from the soundtrack of "Ghost?" A beautiful song to dance to -- and more!
"Unforgettable" - Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole
Light a fire, sip some red wine and stare into your beloved's eyes while listening to either Cole's rendition...or listen to the father/daughter duet for something truly unforgettable.
"When I Fall in Love" - Nat King Cole
This song is a family tradition. My dad once told me about it, and my mom
just kept smiling as he told the story. Not really sure what that mean, but
the general feeling is that I may owe my existence to this song. Thanks, Nat.
"When We Dance" - Sting
Sting is a good-lookin' man. And he has a lot of kids. That's not a
mistake, trust us.
"You Are So Beautiful" - Joe Cocker
Ever see John Belushi do his Joe Cocker imitation? Frightening. You could
be having spasms just like that if you play this song for your honey.
